Log Propagation Page 4A - Buds
Logs bud either vertically or horizontally—but how do your know which end to bury for vertical propagation?

Vertical log with first visible sign of
bud forming in areole.

Horizontal log

Looking down on vertical log.
Old, thick, mature section was cut
in field during rainy season yet was
strong enough to fight off rot with only
black mold showing on scab.

Another old, mature section had several
branches harvested by snapped off from
a rough break (limb taken without using a
saw). Plant was strong enough not to rot.
